The first in a series of new singles I recorded during the height of the pandemic, "Well Now" is a reflection of the fragile and charged emotional state we've all been dealing with during this past year, oscillating between anxiety and hope, compounded by a crippling sense of uncertainty and lack of control.

As I'm sure many creators can relate, I put pressure on myself to make music during the extended period of "free time" during California's first lockdown. I told myself I couldn't "squander the opportunity" because who knew how long it would last and when I would have this much time again (this was in April). Of course, that approach yielded a bunch of nothing. It was only after the reality of the length of the pandemic set in that I was able to take a more natural approach to the process. I'd fiddle around on the piano, take a progression into Ableton, start in on some drums and build melody from there, all the while trying to keep that focus on building tension and offering the necessary counterpoint of cathartic release. I humbly offer it as a joyful end to an insane year.

It was important to me that "Well Now" dropped before the end of the year, both as a marker of time and because I really believe that hope is the major feeling of the track. Making it helped me get through the challenging times and by putting it out I hope that these few minutes of listening offer you a similar cathartic release.
